LIFE-SYNFLUOR gets underway: innovation and sustainability at the heart of the kick-off meeting

With the kick-off meeting, held on September 30, 2024, the new FLUORSID project, LIFE-SYNFLUOR, promoted by the LIFE programme, co-financed by the European Union and realised in collaboration with Pirelli, got underway.

“This new beginning marks an important chapter for FLUORSID: it is a technological challenge that we are committed to pursuing and that we hope can generate very significant results” said Luca Pala, Research & Development Director and project coordinator, opening the meeting and once again underlining the core values at the heart of LIFE-SYNFLUOR: innovation and sustainability.

The meeting, which took place online and was attended by FLUORSID and Pirelli, represented the first planned milestone in the pioneering project in which, for the first time ever, three industrial supply chains – fluorine, fertilisers and tyres – will work together.

FLUORSID will focus on the valorisation of FSA (hexafluorosilicic acid), a by-product of the fertiliser industry, while Pirelli will test the precipitated silica obtained from the process, first on a laboratory scale and then on an industrial scale, using it in the production of tyres to improve their performance on the road and fuel consumption.
